Happy Birthday to Me...NOT

I'm one of those people who's never sick. I go year after year watching those around me get sick and take care of them, all while never getting sick myself. Well my friends, this lucky streak has ended. I woke up on Sunday (which was my birthday) to the worst stomach bug EVER. To top it off Luke had to work and couldn't get off so I had both kids all day by myself. Talk about HARD! I could barely get out of bed, let alone chase after a todder all day. Thankfully my neighbor took Aiden for a few hours in the morning and then one of the girls a few doors down came to play with Aiden later in the day. The baby and I laid around all day. I think she could sense I was very sick because she slept almost as much as I did..and without fussing about it!

When Luke got home everyone sang happy birthday to me with a cute little chocolate cake, but I could barely lift my head enough to blow out the candles. ICK

I'm better now, but this little bug still has it's grip on me. I'm hoping it's gone by Friday because I have a busy weekend ahead of me!!

Roseola, Part 2

The fever has gone, and now the nasty rash has reared it's ugly head. It appeared this morning and it's all over his little body, even on his face. I've seen pictures of other children with the rash on them and Aiden is very lucky! His isn't nearly as bad as it could have been.

Through it all, he has been a little angel (well for the most part ;)). You wouldn't know he was sick. I'm definitley glad the fever is gone though. I had a hard time sleeping knowing his fever could have spiked up over night.
We had a very lazy day today. Luke worked all day, so Aiden and I layed around the house. We were supposed to go swimming with our neighbors, but the sun decided to hide all day. It was nice to do NOTHING though....sometimes we need those days!!!

Roseola

This year has been a roller coaster of ups and downs when it comes to sicknesses. I'm sure it will only get bumpier as we get older. Aiden spent most of February, March and half of April sick. Here it is the middle of June and he hasn't been sick since.

Well...that was until Wednesday :(

He woke up from his afternoon nap with a temperature of 103. I thought nothing of it really because this same thing happened last month and I gave him one dose of Tylenol and it went away and never returned. This time around I did the same thing, but three hours later the fever spiked back up. This went on for two days. The STRANGE thing is that there is nothing else going on (his noes is running a little bit, but it's clear). He's happy, eating, drinking, playing....all else normal, just this HOT HOT body.

I decided that yesterday, since it spiked back up to 102.7 that I would take him to the dr. I was betting on ear infection. He gets one everytime he's finished a round of teething and he is getting his incisors in right now. Off to the dr we went...

We saw Dr. Schultz who's not our normal doc, but he's great with children. Dr. S checked the little man out and there was NOTHING WRONG with him. I couldn't believe it..like I said, I would have put money on the ears! The doctor did suspect Roseola.

Roseola (also known as sixth disease, exanthem subitum, and roseola infantum) is a viral illness in young children, most commonly affecting those between the ages of 6 months and 2 years. It is typically marked by several days of high fever, followed by a distinctive rash just as the fever breaks.

Nothing to worry about...we just need to wait it out. Here it is day 4 and fever is still around, but he's as happy as a clam!!

Easter Weekend

Wow...Easter has come and gone already. It's hard to belive how fast the time is going by. We had a really nice weekend despite the fact that Aiden was sick again. Let me tell you....he is a really BAD teether. Not only does he get in like three at a time but he seems to get a double ear infection after each one of them. In addition to the teething he also started a new daycare last week so all of those things combined made for a sick little one.

Saturday we headed to my dad's house. Aiden got to visit with his cousins that we don't see very often. The day started off sort of iffy but the weather cleared and we were able to get the kiddies outside for thier egg hunt! Aiden isn't really into the whole thing yet so Luke and I would throw and egg behind him, he'd spot it, pick it up, place it in his basket, and then we'd take the egg and start the whole process over again. He ended up "picking up" about 20 eggs, but there were only 5 in his basket..hehe...ah the trickery! Aiden hung in there for most of the day, although I couldn't be more than 10 feet away from him b/c if so, he threw a fit.

Sunday were were going to head to the Leesburg flower show but unfortunately Aiden was a clinger all weekend and we didn't want to keep him out in the cold for that long so we ditched it and went over to the Hornbakers for dinner instead. It's been a while since we have seen them so we thought it would be nice to visit!

All in all it was a good weekend!

Winter Blues

I am SO over the cold weather. I'm over sicknesses, being stuck indoors, snow, sleet and freezing rain.

Aiden is better, he's eating LOTS of solid food, but it seems that whatever lingered around for all this time has struck me in the form of a nasty (and I mean NASTY) cold. I am going on day four with the inability to taste anything. I can't eat, due to the fact that I can't taste what I'm eating. What a mess! I went to the doctor today which for me was a HUGE step. The last time I went to the dr (non baby related) was when I was like ten. I don't take medicine for anything...but I hardly ever get sick. This cold has really been kicking my butt, so I broke down and went. Turns out I have a sinus infection (SIGH).

Who'd a thunk it??

Amoxicilian to the rescue...we'll see :)

Spring...oh Spring...whheeeerrrrreeee aaaaarrrrrreeeee yyyyooooouuuuuuuu?

The Virus Saga Continues

I am so glad this week is almost over. It seems that this virus really took a toll on Aiden. Update to our week:

Thursday: Silly me thought that Aiden's 12 month was today, turn out it's NEXT TUESDAY so I make a sick appt for Aiden at his dr. office and she decides that it would be best for Aid to get some fluids via IV. We spend the evening in the hospital. The nurses at the hospital were GREAT even though it took them four tries to get the IV in. His poor veins were busting due to the dehydration.
Friday: We get home from hosptial around 1 and Aiden is still acting tired and cranky and still not eating anything
Saturday: Luke and I had tickets to see Avenue Q in DC so Robyn came to watch Aiden...he's still not eating much, but Robyn did get him to drink some milk from a bottle.
Sunday: Aiden is finally eating again (WHOOOO HOOOO). It began this morning and he has continued to eat and drink all day. He's not eating as much as usual but at least it's a start...but now he has a fever, a nasty wet cough and runny noes. AT LEAST HE'S EATING!!!

Tomorrow a new week begins. Please oh please make this one a better one!!

The Norovirus, AKA "Pain in the A#%"

I don't get sick, Luke doesn't get sick...in the 5 years that we have been together I think we each have thrown up maybe once from being sick and it was a fluke thing each time.

Well...my how things change when you have a child. This past weekend was Aiden's big par-tay and someone showed up with a nasty little bug and IT HAS ATTACKED MY FAMILY...AND THE SWEENEY FAMILY AND SEVERAL OTHERS THAT WERE IN ATTENDANCE. Not only do I feel bad b/c all these people got it at my house but I feel bad b/c I feel bad, well I felt bad...literally.

The VA Dept of Health has issued a statement that a norovirus has struck VA http://www.vdh.state.va.us/Epidemiology/Surveillance/norovirus.htm.

It's really the most horrible thing...this has been my week thus far:

Sunday- Luke was working while Aiden and I were laid up all day sick, Aiden was spewing from both ends, I was achy and feverish and my stomach was in knots
Monday- I was still sick but I went to work and toughed it out all day..Aiden stayed home with daddy and seemed fine but was still spewing from one end (YUCK) and wouldn't eat any solids
Tuesday- Luke wakes up spewing from both ends....I take Aiden to daycare only to have to pick him up early b/c he's still blowing out his diapers and he's running a fever. I am starting to feel a little better, but my stomach is still knotty.
Wednesday- Luke's better, I'm better, but poor little Aiden still has diarrhea which has given him diaper rash and he won't eat much of anything. Oh and the dog's puking too...WTF?
Thursday- OH WAIT....IT"S ONLY WEDNESDAY....AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

Tomorrow is Aiden's 12 month checkup so we will have the doctors give him a good look over then. I'm pretty sure they are going to tell us that there is nothing they can do...to keep him comfortable and hydrated.

In addition to Aiden having this "Pain in the A#$" sickness, he's also getting some teeth. He's been gnawing on any and everything he can fit into his mouth. I must say though...he has been the best sport. He's really been the best sick kid imaginable. He whines a little bit but other than that, he's buisness as usual. Yesterday he was even dancing. His idea of dancing is spinning around in circles until he falls down. I meant to get it on video but I couldn't get to my camera in time. Hopefully I'll catch it next time.

Until then...

Long Time, No Post

Gees...have I been MIA lately. I come home each day with full intentions of posting and before I know it, it's 10 o'clock and I'm exhausted. Alot has been happening around the Callas household. Let's see...where to begin....

Halloween....Aiden was a HOOT...literally, he was a little owl. The cutest little owl you have ever seen. He helped me hand out candy that night...we had a blast together.
Aiden has been sick on and off for the last month. It did take 9 months to happen, but now that it's here IT SUCKS! First it was Bronchitis, then a double ear infection, and now the nasty wet cough is back again. On a happier note, he's moving all around the house. He's becoming braver by the day. On occasion, he will take a step in between toys, but it doesn't happen often. He's growing up so fast.

Work has been keeping us busy and how that the holidays are here it seems like things are only going to get CRAZIER. We decorated the house this past weekend and Aiden's face lit up (no pun intended) when he say the Christmas tree with all of it's lights turned on. At first he had a look of concern on his face, but that quickly turned to glee. I don't think I have seen a smile so big. He just loves the blinking angel at the top. It was quite a sight to see him so excited. I absolutely love this time of year and I am going to involve him as much as possible so that he will grow to love it as much as I do.

We also took Aiden to see Santa this year. I thought that he would do really well considering that I can hand the child to a complete stranger and he will just sit there completely content (we have to work on this). I guess the big white beard and red suit kind of changed things a bit. As soon as I sat Aid down, he threw a fit. We were able to calm him down just enough to get a picture. It's actually the perfect one..half crying and half smiling. Maybe next year will be better.

Thanksgiving was a hit this year. Unfortunatly, Luke has to work most of the holidays this year, AGAIN, but we managed to squeeze in a dinner on Thursday. We had his dad over and I surprised them with a Leg of Lamb. It was my first and I have to say it was excellent (not to toot my own horn or anything)..hehe.

Well that's a summary of the last two months. I will get better at making time to post...PROMISE!!
